Question: Is the Popular Doctrine correct or is the original scripture correct?

2Ki 8:19 “Yet Jehovah would not destroy Judah for David
His servant's sake, as He promised him to give him a light to his sons
forever.”
REPLACEMENT: 2Ki

He promised him to give him a light to his sons forever.
REASON: Popular Doctrine states that Judah WAS Destroyed and trampled
underfoot by NUMEROUS Empires through until 1948!! As for David and “a
light to his sons forever”? The LIGHT went OUT with the end of Zedekiah! (Refer Jer
52:10-11). Therefore this whole verse should be removed from scripture!
