I opened ‘e-Sword’ and I thought I would do a bit of a study
of the various versions of 2 Thessalonians 2, verses 1 to 5. Then if you have
ever heard of the ‘Aussie Bible’, I thought I would have a go at producing an Aussie
version of that passage, just for the fun of it. See if you reckon
if have given it the right “dingky die” Aussie flavour!
1898 Young’s Literal Translation
2Th 2:1 And we ask
you, brethren, in regard to the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our
gathering together unto him,
2Th 2:2 that ye be
not quickly shaken in mind, nor be troubled, neither through spirit, neither
through word, neither through letters as through us, as that the day of Christ
hath arrived;
2Th 2:3 let not any
one deceive you in any manner, because--if the falling away may not come first,
and the man of sin be revealed--the son of the destruction,
2Th 2:4 who is
opposing and is raising himself up above all called God or worshipped, so that
he in the sanctuary of God as God hath sat down, shewing himself off that he is
God-- the day doth not come .
2Th 2:5 Do ye not
remember that, being yet with you, these things I said to you?

anyone deceive you in any way, because that Day will not come unless first

worship, so as for him "to sit in the temple of God" as God, setting

fooled! People will rebel against God. Then before the Lord returns, the wicked
one who is doomed to be destroyed will appear.
2Th 2:4 He will brag
and oppose everything that is holy or sacred. He will even sit in God's temple
and claim to be God.

easily confused in your thinking or upset by the claim that the Day of the Lord
has come. Perhaps it is thought that we said this while prophesying or
preaching, or that we wrote it in a letter.
2Th 2:3 Do not let
anyone deceive you in any way. For the Day will not come until the final
Rebellion takes place and the Wicked One appears, who is destined to hell.
2Th 2:4 He will
oppose every so-called god or object of worship and will put himself above them
all. He will even go in and sit down in God's Temple and claim to be God.
2Th 2:5 Don't you
remember? I told you all this while I was with you.

2Th 2:1 Brothers and
sisters, we have something to say about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We
want to talk to you about that time when we will meet together with him.
2Th 2:2 Don't let

already come. Someone might say that this idea came from us--in something the
Spirit told us, or in something we said, or in a letter we wrote.

My Aussie Bible
2Th 2:1 For goodness
sake folks you’ve gota get this straight, when Jesus comes back and we wiz up to
meet him and all that stuff.
2Th 2:2 Don’t let
people give you the raw prawn, as though that glorious day is just around the
corner! Or as though they reckon it’s the good oil from me, they are leading
you up the garden path and feeding you a load of horse feathers.
2Th 2:3 Don’t let
them pull the wool over your eyes. Before that day happens people are going to
loose interest in the truth of the gospel by the dray loads and believe a lie,
then after that; the ‘Big Swindler’ will turn up, the Devils mate himself.
2Th 2:4 He will pop
up like a tall poppy and show off, as if he is God and expect people to
worship him. He will even hoodwink the true believers and dare to say he is
God.
2Th 2:5 Doesn’t that
ring a bell from the last time I told you about all that stuff?
