Introduction
My darling wife
and I were on a trip around Western Australia and we dropped in to see some old
friends. Went to their church; then had lunch at our friend’s home. Then some
church members, as usual came around to have a bible study. Eventually we came
to the topic of Jesus and Michael the Archangel are one and the same!? Now this
I had heard before, but on this occasion it was not just preaching from the
pulpit, it was a two-way discussion. We were all trying to defend our beliefs,
but the final score was a friendly “Nil All”. At the end of the week our
friends gave us an article about Michael etc. So it is for our good friends in
WA that I have put together this discussion.
Aim
By scripture alone I hope to provide the answers to the quests above, “Who is Jesus?
Or is he Michael The Archangel?”
I am purposely avoiding any previous works
by any leading scholar, preacher or prophet. For the simple reason that their
work, no matter how eloquent, can only be accepted if it can be verified by
scripture. So let cut to the chase and go straight to scripture, for I am sure
the scriptures alone can provide all the proof we are looking for.
John puts it in a nutshell in his opening
paragraph when he tells us about “The Word”. John 1:1 “In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. v:2
The same was in the beginning with God. v:3 All things were made by
him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. v:4 In
him was life; and the life was the light of men.” Skip to v:10 “He
was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him
not.”… to v:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become
the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”… to v:14 “And
the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the
glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
So what does
this passage tell us about The Word? We knew him in the Old Testament as the
Lord or the ‘I Am’ amongst other names. We now know Him as Jesus who became
flesh. Go to v14 “the Word was made flesh…the only begotten of the Father,”
(Father God). It is Jesus who was with God and Jesus is God. It was Jesus, (The
Word), who made absolutely everything that was created. Jesus was the creator
with God! Go to Gen 1:26. (There has to be two people in this conversation),
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our
likeness:” Yet they are one! Remember Jesus prayer in the garden where he
was captured. John 17:20 “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them
also which shall believe on me through their word; v:21 That they
all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also
may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent
me.” So Jesus, (The Word), and God are one, One God!
This is the
catch-22 dilemma we have in the ‘Three in One God Head’. We say we worship One
God! But we speak of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. But think of
yourself, we are made in the likeness of God. We are a body living in the world
of the five senses and four dimensions; if we include time, which stops for us
individual when the body dies. We are a soul, our mind our thought our will.
Adam “became a living soul” Gen. 2:7. We have a spirit. The Lord ‘formeth the
spirit of man within him.’ Zec 12:1. ‘The spirit of man is the candle of the
LORD’ Pro 20:27. ‘And the spirit shall return unto God who gave it’ Ecc 12:7.
So we are a three in one being, in the likeness of God who is also three in
one.
Other Passages
say The Lord or Jesus Is The Creator
Psa 90:1 “A Prayer of Moses the man of
God. Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all
generations. v:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever
thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to
everlasting, thou art God.”
Psa 95:5 “The sea is his, and he
made it: and his hands formed the dry land. ”
Pro 26:10 “The great God that
formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors. ”
Isa 43:10 “Ye are my witnesses, saith
the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me,
and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither
shall there be after me. ”
Jer 33:2 “Thus saith the LORD the
maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is
his name; ”
Eph 3:9 “And to make all men see what
is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath
been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:”
Rev 4:11 “Thou art worthy, O Lord,
to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things,
and for thy pleasure they are and were created. ”
Rev 10:6 “And sware by him that liveth
for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and
the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the
things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: ”
So Jesus was in
the beginning with God! But at that time his name ‘Jesus’ had not been made
know to man. His name was secret! Jdg 13:18
Hebrews chapter 1 is an amazing opening
address. Paul is obviously powerfully filled with the Spirit when he starts
dictating or writing this passage. It is full of references to the Old
Testament. It clearly indicates Christ’s relationship to the Father and to the
angels. In this passage Paul stresses twice an important statement; “But to
which of the angels said he at any time”. Then look at what follows that
statement.
Hebrews
1:1 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past
unto the fathers by the prophets, v:2 Hath in these last days spoken
unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he
made the worlds; v:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and
the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his
power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of
the Majesty on high; v:4 Being made so much better than the
angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
v:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art
my Son, this day have I begotten thee?” (Refer also Psalms 2:7).
“And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? v:6 And
again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let
all the angels of God worship him. v:7 And of the angels he
saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of
fire. v:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever
and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy
kingdom. v:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity;
therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above
thy fellows. v:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the
foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: v:11 They
shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a
garment; v:12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they
shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not
fail. v:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time,
Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? v:14 Are
they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be
heirs of salvation?”
To ‘which of the angels said he at any
time’? That clearly indicates that God DID NOT turn to any of the angels and
promote him to the position of Jesus Christ.
Who And What Were Created?
Psa 148:1
“Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the
heights. v:2 Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all
his hosts. v:3 Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
v:4 Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.
v:5 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were
created.” The Psalmist gives us a list of ALL things that should praise the
LORD. In that list in v2 is “ALL the angels”. And why should ALL these things
Praise the LORD? Verse 5 “for he commanded, and they were created”,
So ALL the angels are CREATED beings.
Remember Paul writes to the Ephesians; Eph
6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Now read when Paul writes to the
Colossians; Col 1:15 “Who is the image of the invisible God, the
firstborn of every creature: v:16 For by him were all things
created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and
invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities,
or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: v:17 And
he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” So ALL the
thrones, powers etc. are created entities in the spirit world, whether they are
for good or evil, ‘God through Jesus Christ’ created them Eph 3:9
The Word or the
LORD, before he “became flesh” as Jesus, was on the scene before time, before
creation, before the angels or anything were created! The scriptures above
prove this. Refer Pro 26:10, Psa. 148:1-5, John 1:1-3, Eph 3:9, Col 1:15-16,
Heb 1:1-14 Rev 4:11, Rev 10:6 etc. And I am saw there are numerous other
scriptures you could find showing that the Word pre-existed all things. Pick an
appropriate word and doing a word search, and if you come up with a few more
good passages let me know! So Jesus is eternal! He is the ‘I Am’ before the
angels existed! He created the angels! Therefore Jesus was “not an angel
become flesh”, Jesus is God become flesh!

Thanks for your time, I hope you have found this of
interest; I have another talk coming up entitled, ‘Who Is The Angel Of The
Lord’. It was another interesting topic that our friends raised in conjunction
with the subject above.
‘GBY’, God Bless Ya!
Yours
