When Was The First Blood Sacrifice?
Remember Adam?
Gen 3:9-11 “And Jehovah God
called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? :10 And he said, I
heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I am naked, and I hid
myself. :11 And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you
eaten of the tree which I commanded you that you should not eat?” The
very first SIN
What is the remedy for SIN? Paul tells us in a nutshell in Hebrews. Heb
9:22 “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and
without shedding of blood is no remission.” …no remission of
SIN
So what did the Lord do for Adam n Eve Gen
3:21 “And for Adam and his wife Jehovah God made coats of skins, and
clothed them.” How did He do
that?
Just imagine if you were Adam n Eve. And you see the Lord Himself kill an
animal and skinned it in front of you! Simply because you disobeyed God and eat
an apple! Imagine that! You have never seen anything as graphic and horrific as
that. Then the Lord puts those bloody skins on you as clothing to cover you
nakedness. These days we keep our meat production industries hidden out of
public view. You can ask many people, “where does meat come from?” And they
will probably say from the freezer section! But they have no idea how it gets
into the freezer section!
So, for the first time
in world History Adam n Eve witnessed the slaughter of an animal. As for the
animal carcasses, scripture doesn’t say what happened to them, but I think the
Lord in His role as perfect High priest, would have burnt them, as you would in
a sacrifice. That is probably where Able got the idea for a burnt animal
sacrifice?
Let's slightly change the subject. Do any of you know a farmer who has had a
problem farm dog? Particularly say on a poultry farm. What dose the farmer do
to his dog if it kills a chook? He gets the dead chook and ties it around the
neck of the dog and leaves it to rot! Eventually the dog hates the smell of the
chook so much, it will NEVER go near a chook again!
Back to Adam n Eve, with blood-soaked skin coverings. You would imagine they
would think twice about upsetting God again. But NO, after a generation we can
see man must have become complacent with killing animals for meat and to cloth
themselves. Their minds have become desensitised to butchering animals. And Sin
arose again when Cain killed Able. So sin has haunted mankind until Christ came and wiped it
away; so that God sees us as innocent, refer Heb 10:17 “also He adds, "their sins and their iniquities
I will remember no more."
Now Let's Think About Jesus
He is our blood sacrifice. He went through horrendous punishment in order to
fulfil that which was required by God. We can go to various scriptures to see
what He went through: -
Isa 52 :14 MKJV1962 “Just as many were astonished at You (so [much was] the
disfigurement from man, His appearance and His form from the sons of mankind);”
Isa 53 :3 KJV “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and
acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”
Isa 53:4 “Surely He has borne our
griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten of
God, and afflicted.'”
What is meant by this? We hid our faces? Jesus we so disfigured he was
unrecognisable and a shock to look at. So they turned away so that they couldn't
see the horror. I knew a pastor who worked in a psychiatric word. He saw a person so badly beaten; he had a rounded face like a basketball. So can you imagine
Jesus, and we know from scripture He had been beaten up, His beard plucked, so
his face was a mess. And He went through all of that, why? Because He loves
us.!
And “we esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God?” That is not correct, it says, “WE
esteemed smitten by God” He was not smitten by God! Paul tells us in 2Co
5:19 “whereas God was in Christ reconciling the
world to Himself,” You hear
all these silly augments; Can
God Look On Sin? Or Did
God Forsake Jesus On The Cross? You can open those links to see what I have
side about those issues. God and Christ were together at the cross conducting
the plan of salvation for all mankind for all time. In the same way Abraham was
standing over Isaac ready to sacrifice Isaac just before God intervened. Gen
22:11 “And the Angel of Jehovah called to him from the heavens and said,
Abraham! Abraham! And he said, Here am I. :12 And He said, Do not lay
your hand on the lad, nor do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God,
since you have not withheld your son, your only one, from Me.” Why
would God ask Abraham to do something that God was not prepared to do Himself?
We have sanitized what Jesus went through. And he did that willingly for us.
The Last Supper
Let’s look at what Jesus said at
the last supper. Luke 22:19 “And He took bread and gave thanks, and He
broke it and gave it to them, saying, This is My body which is given for you,
this do in remembrance of Me. Luke 22:20 “In the same way He took the cup,
after having dined, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is
being poured out for you." Also, we have in John 6:54 "Whoever partakes of My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."
Then what did Paul say about it?
Paul tells us that he received this from the Lord,
possibly by word of knowledge. And he tells us that we should not take elements
of communion lightly!
1Co 11:23-34 “For I received from
the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in
which he was betrayed took bread; :24 And giving thanks, He broke it and
said, "Take, eat; this is My body, which is broken for you; this do in
remembrance of Me." :25 In the same way He took the cup also, after
supping, saying, "This cup is the New Covenant in My blood; as often as
you drink it, do this in remembrance of Me." :26 For "as often
as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you show" the Lord's death until
He shall come. :27 So that whoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup
of the Lord unworthily, he will be guilty of the body and blood of the
Lord. :28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread
and drink of that cup. :29 For he who eats and drinks unworthily eats and
drinks condemnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. :30 For
this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and many sleep. :31 For if
we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. :32 But when we are
judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the
world. :33 So that, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for
one another. :34 But if anyone hungers, let him eat at home, so that you
do not come together to condemnation. And the rest I will set in order when I
come."
I have put this together for a
communion at our little home group meeting. I may not get the chance to present
all of it, or maybe I can present it in two or three separate nights? Hope you have
enjoyed this little talk?
